Tuesday evening a number of people, many of whom were children, were sent to local hospitals due to a chlorine leak at an indoor swimming facility. The leak caused nausea and respiratory problems for those at the facility but thankfully everyone got out of the building before anything more serious happened. The cause of the leak is still on under investigation. Although chlorine is one of the most common chemicals used to keep pool water clean it can also be extremely dangerous if not properly used. If released in uncontrolled amounts it can quickly cause breathing problems which can lead to suffocation.
This should be a reminder to anyone who uses potentially dangerous chemicals, especially in a public place, to exercise a high level of caution with their use. Before using any chemicals it is extremely important to carefully read any instructions and warnings and to closely follow those instructions. Failure to do so can lead to misuse which can cause serious injuries not only to the user but also to anyone who may later come in contact with the chemical or a contaminated area. If you are in an area where you know chemicals are used, for example a swimming pool, it is important to be aware of any unusual odors or symptoms you may begin to experience. Often exposure to a dangerous chemical will bring on symptoms such as skin or eye irritation as well as nausea and breathing difficulties. If you suddenly feel ill get away from that area as soon as possible since the longer you allow yourself to be exposed, the greater the danger becomes. You also should see a doctor as soon as possible to definitively identify what was causing the symptoms and to get any treatment necessary.
If you have been harmed from exposure to chemicals used by another person you have a right to hold that person liable for the harm you suffered. This includes compensation for any medical bills or pain you incurred. The attorneys at Ben Bronston and Associates have years of experience helping those injured due to the negligence of others get the justice they deserve and will fight to do the same for you.
