A truck carrying ethanol crashed earlier last week near the Hardy Toll Road exit, causing an inferno that killed the driver inside. The accident occurred at about 1:30 p.m. and witnesses have said speed may have been a factor. The wreck occurred on the feeder road lanes where firefighters were dispatched and had to use water and foam to bring the flames under control. The fire also spread to a nearby vacant garage and police noted that a hazmat crew was called to the scene. WATCH:
This tragic incident once again underscores the dangers of trucking accidents in Houston and Southeast Texas. As a world leader in the chemical industry, the Houston-Baytown-Huntsville-Galveston regions are home to hundreds of chemical plants, significantly increasing the chances of these types of incidents. And because commercial vehicles are so large and heavy, the fatality and injury rates are often substantially higher. They have contributed heavily to the deadly crash statistics for the State of Texas.
According to the most recent data from the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 3,610 deaths in 2019 on Texas roadways and another 256,338 people who were injured in traffic-related crashes.
If you or a loved one are one of the many people in Texas who have been in a car or truck accident, you’ll need an experienced attorney’s help. Truck accidents involve federal oversight and differ from how a typical car accident claim is handled. Before agreeing to an insurance settlement, it is strongly advised to speak to an attorney to discuss your rights and go over your legal options.
