Deadly Traffic Crashes on the Rise in West Texas and South Texas Oil Boom Regions
2012 showed a sharp increase in crash numbers in the West Texas Permian Basin. There were 320 fatal accidents in the region and fatal crashes increased by 27% in 2012 over the previous year. Our Texas crash injury attorneys emphasize that there were more than 4,000 accidents in the Permian Basin that caused both fatal and serious injuries. Speeding and driver distraction have been named by law enforcement officials as the two leading causes of these serious crashes. (Source: TxDOT.gov, 3/1/13)
Drive carefully if you travel the oil boom regions of Texas. Traffic is heavier than the roads were generally designed for, and oil company workers might be fatigued and/or distracted.
Truck accidents have climbed in the Odessa region as oilfield and industrial traffic and increased, provoking safety advocates to push for increased safety precautions. Lower speeds, increased signals and signs are just some of the precautions residents and businesses alike have been encouraging in an effort to decrease the serious injuries and wrongful deaths occurring in the area as a result of 18 wheeler and oilfield truck accidents occurring all too often.
